Peter Stretch Tall Clock

Many tall clock cases in the Queen Anne period had a built-up dome top like this Peter Stretch Philadelphia case. It is not uncommon for these tops to be removed and lost when a new owner does not have the ceiling height to accommodate them. The above photo shows my restoration work before coloring-in and finishing. This hood also had lost its fretwork (usually backed with a red silk) on the tympanum and across the top. The fretwork is only about 3/32" thick and is sawed out by hand with a fine-toothed fretsaw.
