The Decorative Art of Telling Time

An Exhibit of Cumberland County Tall Case Clocks

It was a labor of love gathering together twenty-two Cumberland County tall clocks in one room. Ten were from the CCHS museum and the others were from private collections. We set up four clock works in the center of the room so that the the movements could be seen.

I wrote an essay for the exhibit that includes a brief history of the tall clock, some aspects of its production here in America and a summary of what is known about the Cumberland County clockmakers. You can read it here.
