Jacob Herwick
Attributed to Herwick; dial is not signed. Painted iron dial with seconds subdial above center and a calendar aperture below. Walnut Chippendale case. CCHS, Gift of John Mell. Circa 1785-90. Height 8’ 1”.
The dial of this movement was painted by a transfer method, as opposed to being painted individually by hand. It is one of the earliest dials made by the English dial maker Thomas Hadley Osborne. The design is a nautical motif with a ship in the middle of the arch and anchors next to it.
